Meet the Creature

Every few weeks or so, the Environmental Education Building in Chandler has a "Meet the Creature" day for kids. There were many guinea pigs of course.... so used to going into their little bags for the kids to pet... that they just run in when you hold the bag close to them. There were also chickens with diapers on... a good idea. The chickens were so used to being petted that they didn't even move... just sat in one place. There was also a lizard used to being carried around by children.. but Jazzy wouldn't pet him. The woman who has the class is a professional wildlife rehabilitator. She brought in "Quinn" the Patagonian Cavy... kind of looks like a cross between a jackrabbit and a kangaroo. She also had a little 7 day old Patagonian Cavy that she was bottle feeding. There was also a ringtailed cat... which apparently has their densest population in Maricopa County, AZ. An African fox- retired from the zoo due to age and because his wife died... also visited. He was blind due to taurine deficiency as a "kit'. Now he eats a specially formulated "fox food" and his favorite is blueberries and cranberries.
