One year ago....

One year ago on MLK day, we went to the post office forgetting that it would not be open. We saw a little emaciated, dehydrated, terrified little dog running frantically around the parking lot. We called her over, and she jumped in the car and immediately made herself comfortable in my lap. I really didn't want a dog at the time, but when I told Jasmine we were taking the dog to the Humane Society, she cried and wailed for hours. So... of course, we got a new dog!
Jessie has been/is the best little companion for Jasmine- putting up with just about anything from wearing jewelry and outfits to being dragged around on a walk by Jasmine. The only time she lets out a little yipe is when Jasmine hugs her too hard.

Busy week....

This has been an extremely busy week... starting with the Phoenix Music Academy, continuing with self-defense karate class, ice skating, and piano. We also started/continued a dance class with the Chandler Parks and Rec. When we got done at class, the grump of a teacher said.."Jasmine is too small for this class. You need to go to a different one"... (even though the class is for 4-6 yr olds) The discrimination is just beginning:(. I didn't like the teacher anyway and wouldn't have signed up for the class if I would have known she was teaching it. We will continue next semester at Tempe with the other teacher.
In the self defense/karate class, the kids are continuing to learn about "stranger danger" and are in the process of memorizing their own phone numbers.
Today in "cooking class", they made a blueberry yogurt "parfait"...it didn't look too ..uh.. appetizing. They also made "ants on a log". The last class was "Girly Girlz" where Jazzy and her friends made hats and danced with their "boas". During our classes today, there was a "Multicultural Festival" going on. Hundreds if not thousands of immigrants were carrying around their American flags and taking their oath of citizenship. It was nice to watch people become citizens who had actually done so legally and had probably spent years... if not their entire life, working with our Immigration system to become American citizens- which from just my couple of short years of experience with them is a long, degrading and frustrating process.

Phoenix Music Academy...

PMA has a class for 4-6 yr olds thru Chandler Parks and Rec. Tonight was our first class- and I really didn't get any good pictures because the kids were facing away from us. They sang songs and each got to pretend they were a dog and sing a solo. They also learned the difference between a solo and an ensemble. At the end of the 6 week class, they will present a "musical". I sure can tell that Jasmine is 4 and the other kids are 5 yrs old. A little difference in the attention span:)

Today, Jasmine's pre-school class studied the letter "H" and what the word "hibernation" means. Everyone wore their pajamas to school, brought their favorite stuffed animals, and practiced hibernating in the classroom. Jasmine- having a plethora of animals to choose from- chose her Mickey Mouse. They made little paper bears, and I was told by the teacher that Jasmine named her bear "Judy Bear":))

Skating and Cheering....

Last night, cheerleading. Tonight, skating. Jasmine started to learn to skate backwards tonight.... I am told. I was engrossed in the book Decision Point- Bush's autobiography. He had/has a pretty interesting life and family history.
After skating we ate at Pei Wei Asian Diner.
