DISCOA Exhibition....
This morning we had an exhibition with the Desert Ice Skating Club of Arizona. It was Jazzy's first time doing her new "Country Kid" program. It was pretty much everyones first time doing their new fall programs. Rozeline was out of town, and Jasmine had a meltdown. She wouldn't go on the ice and just kept crying. Amanda (one of the exhibitors) talked to her for a few minutes and finally she went out. None of the other coaches or I could get her to go, so yeah for Amanda. She half-heartedly did her routine, but at least she did it. Oh well.
I was playing around with the photo editor to make it sepia toned.
Waiting to go on the ice with her friend Zoe Felbein.

Fun Sunday....
but forgot the camera:((. First we did part of Jazzy's homework- compare and contrast three spiders,...plus draw pictures of each spider! Apparently they are studying spiders this week! Last week it was "dogs". We had to write a paragraph using vocabulary words- litter, mammal, hairy, coat, etc. That wasn't too difficult. The teacher wanted to know why dogs are supposed to eat bones. That one was pretty easy. So far we have done the tarantula and 'daddy long leg' which is not really a spider. We still have to research and write about the black widow. This is pretty easy since I am a homeopath and those spiders are used homeopathically. Then we have to write a paragraph about how we spend a typical Sunday.
After doing homework, we spent the day at the Arizona Science Center. We have yet to make it thru all four floors of that place. We did make it up to the third floor this time. Jazzy was anxious to go today because it is the last day of the "Elmo Body" exhibit. Elmo was there teaching about the body inside and out, as well as many kids "body exhibits".
We spent 4 1/2 hours there! Then, we walked around "Heritage Square" which is where there are a few nice restaurants in some of the first homes built in downtown Phoenix in the 1920's. We ate at "Teeter House"- built in 1920 something. I didn't really realize it was more of an "adult" restaurant. Jazzy wanted Asian noodles of course with shrimp. I ordered salmon- thinking I was ordering a nice piece of salmon with vegetables... but no, it was a couple of tiny slivers of raw cured salmon with a little half almond on top. We mixed it into the rice noodle dish so we wouldn't have to know we were eating raw salmon. Next of to ZoYo yogurt- Jazzy's favorite place right in downtown Phoenix. Now we're home and ready to finish the spider paper! No photos:((

Sleepover with Katie.....
Katie is spending the weekend with us. After skating and our individual Power Brain classes this morning, Katie came over with her Mom and Dad. We went to the "Family" Power Brain Training, then to iHop. The poor guinea pigs sure got their exercise being chased around the outdoor appropriately- named "run" while the girls caught them, carried them around like babies, brushed them, and hand fed them for hours:))
At Power Brain with Jonelle (the owner) in the background. Not very good photos:(
At iHop!
Playing with the pigs for hours:) Poor things!
Watching Anjolina Ballerina ice skating show and doing each others hair with a big bucket of Barbies nearby:)

Bad news for our dentist.....
We just heard the news that last night, someone broke into Jazzy's dentist office and destroyed the place. It is only two blocks from our house. Apparently, a cleaning crew there at 2am. Some guys- dressed in black with ski masks on, shot out all the windows, tied up the cleaning crew at gunpoint, then tore everything up- probably looking for drugs or money. I don't think there are many heavy duty drugs in a pediatric dentists office, and they probably don't keep much money there overnight. Stupid idiots! Don't know if they will be open when we are supposed to have our appointment in a couple of weeks.

"Let's Play Music" Class.....
Last night was the "parent's meeting" prior to starting our third year of "Let's Play Music". I learned that at the end of the year, the students will be creating their own composition, teaching it to the parent, then the parent has to play it with the student at the recital. OMG- Noooooooooooooooooooooo. Heeeellllllpppppp meeeeeeeeee!!!!! Up thru this third year, the parent has to learn everything the child learns, practice with them, etc., which was/is a pain in the butt to me since I really have no interest in music lessons. It was still fun, but just a lot more work than I really wanted or expected. This year is going to be even worse. A recital for me....ugggghhhh...
Starting next year, the student goes beyond the parent's level. Yeah!!!!

Arizona Ice Classic....
Today, the Arizona Ice Classic was held at our home rink. Yeah! Instead of having the competition for two days, they just had it today from around 8am until 8pm. Long day- especially for Jaime. She was there the whole time. We went in early this morning for a quick review lesson. Then we didn't skate until 4:30 PM and 7:30 PM. In between time, we went to a Girl Scout recruit activity, made all kinds of crafts, learned about Girl Scouts, and uh...joined Brownies:)) I am certain we will miss every single meeting, but the camps will be fun.
So, ever since returning from vacation, we have been working really hard on two somewhat new routines to the same music- "Boots" and "Annie". More difficult moves, spirals and "catch foot", different beginnings and endings to the routines. It seems to have paid off. The judges liked the new "Boots" routine and gave Jazzy first place. I think they also liked the new Annie program, but the other girls skating against Jazzy were more experienced. When there are not enough people in the classes, they combine groups so the less experienced are competing against somewhat older girls. Jasmine still got second place. For the first time ever, she skated both programs flawlessly, staying with the music perfectly, looking the judges right in the eye and doing a little "wink" move when she went by:)) I think we are only doing these routines one more time next month in Flagstaff, the starting completely new ones. The new Artistic Program is to the song "Country Kid" -possibly. I discovered the song while we were driving down the highway to Big Bear. The other one is kind of iffy in my mind..."Corpse Bride"... which is a kind of faster song for our new freeskate routine.
Jazzy and her friend Skyla Bishop who is two years younger:)
First place in Basic 6 Artistic Light against three other girls.
Lilly Dalsin and Jasmine warming up. Lilly beat Jazzy in Dramatic Light 6-8.
Going on the ice any second:)
Jazzy and her friend Anais Van der Voor. They are both in the second grade. Anais parents are from Holland.
