Day 2 at the Grand Canyon....
Nice peaceful night sleeping in the tent... as compared to the hotel where we stayed in Flagstaff.
This morning, two mule deer walked right by our tent- just passing thru!!! Here they are:
Jazzy finished her Raven Ranger Badge requirements today. We had to fill out a little book, making observations about different types of rocks, colors in the Grand Canyon, all of the animals we saw... lots of elk, ravens, chipmunks, lizards.... Then write a haiku poem, which I had forgotten was 5/7/5 syllables for each line: Here is Jazzy's: "Once upon a time, A Raven landed in the trash, and tore it all up.". This was referring to a huge raven that raided our neighbors trash and spread it all over their campsite. Then we had to go to Ranger Storytime-- where the Ranger read several books to the little Raven candidates.
Lunch at Bright Angel Lodge:
Watching some Native American Hoop Dancers at the Hopi Center:
Jazzy's first trip to the Grand Canyon....
Woke up this morning and drove from Flagstaff to our campground at the Grand Canyon - Mather Campground. I tried to set up the tent for about an hour with Jazzy “helping” me, and had no success. Then had to go get a park Ranger to help me:))
Here is Jazzy next to our lopsided tent.
Then we decided to take one of the zillion busses that go around the Canyon and ended up at Mather Point where we took these photos.
Jasmine is working on her Raven Ranger badge. They have to keep a little journal about various rocks they see, animals... which is pretty easy since there are Elk everywhere
Now back to our campground to make some dinner and smore’s. We got back to the campground and started making s'mores, only to find out that we didn't have the chocolate. Jazzy just had a marshmallow/graham cracker sandwich.... then... I was looking in the trunk for something and found a liquified chocolate bar with some school supplies we had purchased!!!Looks like it got put in the wrong bag.

Flagstaff...
Today we drove up to Flagstaff on our way to the Grand Canyon. Went to the Flagstaff Gem and Mineral Show at the Radisson. I gave Jazzy $5.00 to buy some rocks and gems.... which she happily did. Then off to the NAU Astrodome to visit the Lumberjack.

Rosa Rhinocerous
Today in Spanish Camp, one of the crafts they did was to choose an animal, then choose a color. Draw the animal and paint it with the chosen color, then learn the Spanish for your colored animal. Jasmine picked pink and rhinocerous !! Hence.... Rosa Rhinocerous, because apparently the Spanish name for "rhinocerous" is "rhinocerous".

Spanish Immersion Camp...
This week, Jazzy is in a Spanish Immersion Camp in Gilbert. I wanted to save this camp for last so that Spanish would be fresh in Jazzy's mind prior to starting school again in about 2 weeks. The camp is run by the Spanish teacher from Dobson Academy, Ms. Claudia. I actually do not know Ms. Claudia's last name! Everyone just calls her Ms. Claudia. She owns the Spanish Immersion pre-school... which is where the camp is held for "older" kids. Today, they talked about objects like "pencil", "school", made some crafts (a drawing of a pencil that was decorated). Then, they "painted" marshmallows with melted chocolate and decorated them with all kinds of sprinkles, gummy bears, and pretzels. I asked Jasmine the Spanish name for pencil, school, chocolate, marshmallow, etc.... The answer was "I don't know", "I don't know", "I don't know".......!!!
